“Descent into the Valley” is a documentary about Peeter Laurits – photographer and artist – who, like a singular trickster or shaman, conjures at the threshold of different worlds and realities. Moving between art, science, mythology, esotericism and ecology, he builds highways from the level of mosquitoes and bark beetles straight into cosmic spheres. Director Johan Huimerind, himself with a background in photographic art, follows Laurits through Kütiorg, a place that is at once a studio and a strangely shifted mystical realm where time and space refuse linear logic and past, present and imagination coexist. The valley draws the viewer into its lush green spell, offering refuge to those who long for summer warmth and birdsong. Kütiorg, where Laurits settled in the mid 1990s, becomes the film’s central metaphor: an apparently small place whose invisible trajectories and winding paths open new ways of perceiving the world. Through conversations, creative processes and performative everyday life, the film reveals Laurits in a space where low and high, solemn and mundane, heaven and compost heap exist side by side.

Aprillis esimest korda toimuv Eesti filmi kuu tõmbab tähelepanu filmikultuurile üle kogu riigi!
Sel aastal esimest korda toimuva filmikuu eestvedaja on Eesti Filmi Instituut. Filmikuu toimub aprillis ning on pühendatud Eesti filmile tervikuna. 𝟑𝟎. 𝐚𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢 peetakse Eesti filmi sünnipäevaks. Sel päeval aastal 1912 näidati Tartus kinos Illusion Johannes Pääsukese filmi katselenduri Sergei Utotškini lendudest Tartu taevas. Aprill kujuneb tänavu justkui Eesti oma „award season’iks“ – kui rahvusvaheline filmimaailm on äsja tähistanud aasta suurimaid saavutusi mainekate auhindadega, pöördub pilk kodumaise filmi poole. Märtsi lõpus kuulutatakse välja Eesti Filmi- ja Teleauhindade (Eesti filmi- ja teleauhinnad) nominendid, mis toovad esile Eesti filmi- ja audiovisuaalvaldkonna silmapaistvaimad tegijad ja teosed. Pidulik EFTA gala toimub 24. aprillil. Lisaks kuulutatakse märtsi lõpus välja ka Eesti Filmiajakirjanike Ühingu auhinna Neitsi Maali tänavused laureaadid.
Juba toimuvate sündmuste ümber on sobilik rääkida laiemalt Eesti filmist ja korraldada ettevõtmisi, mis tõstaks inimeste teadlikkust Eesti filmiloomingu, -loojate ja -pärandi kohta. Eesti filmi kuu eesmärk on populariseerida kodumaist filmikunsti ning juhtida tähelepanu selle mitmekesisusele ja kvaliteedile, tuues esile laia valiku filme, mis on kättesaadavad nii kinodes kui ka kodustel ekraanidel.
